Janice "Jan" Albin

Janice "Jan" Albin, the woman who never met a slot machine she didn't like, hit the jackpot one last time on May 25th, 2023, and cashed in her chips at the ripe age of 72. Born in Laporte, IN on June 7th, 1950, to Joseph and Regina Albin, Jan's life was a series of wild and wonderful adventures, always surrounded by family, friends, and the occasional one-armed bandit.

Jan learned early on that life was a gamble, a lesson she took to heart and applied to her favorite pastime. Though her parents, older brother, Joseph and younger brother Steven, have already cashed in their own chips, Jan's younger siblings, Patricia Cannan and Dennis Albin, continue to carry on the family tradition of rolling the dice and taking chances.

Friends and family alike will remember Jan as the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a funny story to brighten the room. Her lifelong friend, Judy Vergin, will no doubt regale everyone with tales of their misadventures and the times they laughed so hard they cried. Jan's nieces, nephews, and cousins will forever cherish memories of their beloved aunt and cousin, who never failed to make them smile.

Jan's love of gambling was only matched by her love of people. She was a friendly soul, always eager to strike up a conversation with a stranger or lend a sympathetic ear to a friend in need.

Though Jan was never one to shy away from a risky bet, she was also a firm believer in hedging her bets when it came to love. That's why she made sure to shower her friends and family with affection at every opportunity. Her loving nature and warm heart will be sorely missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know her.

It's important to remember that, in the words of the great Kenny Rogers, she knew when to hold 'em, knew when to fold 'em, and, most importantly, knew when to walk away. Jan's life was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and the occasional lucky hand.

So, in honor of Jan's memory, let's raise a glass, share a laugh, and remember the good times we shared with her. And if you happen to find yourself at a casino, pull the lever on a slot machine in her honor, because that's exactly what Jan would have wanted.

Here's to you, Janice "Jan" Albin - may you rest in peace, surrounded by cherries, sevens, and bars of gold.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in La Porte.
