Gretchen Marie Gehr

Gretchen Marie Gehr, 75, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 27th, 2023, surrounded by her family.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Notre Dame Church, 1010 Moore Road, Long Beach, Indiana with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana.  Visitation will be at Notre Dame Catholic Church Saturday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.  Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

 

Gretchen  was second of seven children of the late Thomas Y. and Marie V, (Kientzy) Gehr.  Born December 15th, 1947, in Michigan City, Indiana. Surviving are two brothers, Richard Gehr of Michigan City, Indiana and Thomas Gehr of Vernon Hills, Illinois; three sisters, Linda Gehr and Karen Gehr both of Michigan City, Indiana, and Shelly (Ellen Glantz) Gehr of Boynton Beach, FL; former sister-in-law, Joan Gehr of Vernon Hills, Illinois; former brother-in-law, David Young of Tucson, Arizona; nephew, Clayton (Marjorie) Young; three nieces, Iris (Chance) Rinker, Dr. Samantha (Ian) Gehr Swanson, and Kelly Gehr; great-niece, Layla Swanson; two great-nephews, Sullivan Young, Tucker Young. Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents and youngest brother, John Gehr.

 

Gretchen attended Notre Dame Grade School and graduated St Mary's High School. She continued her education graduating from the University of Arizona.  She completed her education with a Juris Doctorate from Notre Dame Law School, then admitted to the Indiana Bar Association.

 

During her youth, Gretchen was active in many social club groups.  The Sky Larks, being her favorite.  Gretchen's love for the outdoors and nature  was her passion. Gretchen devoted her life attending to the health and comfort of her family.  In her mind she was a "Michelin  Chef " and her family can attest to it. Gretchen loved to travel and visit new places. Touring Great Britain, from Scotland to Bath.  Along with, crossing the English Channel to tour Paris, being her favorite. Gretchen had a deep love and compassion for animals. Caring for countless pets and wildlife throughout her life.  There was never an animal she would not embrace.
