Robert D. Dove

Robert D. Dove, 87, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 1:20 p.m., Sunday, May 21st, 2023 at home.

 

He was born February 7th, 1936, in Jasper County, Indiana, to Winifred and Opal (Hill) Dove.

 

On April 3rd, 1955, he married Lorraine (Henckel) Dove and together they raised their four children.

 

On May 20th, 2000, he married Barbara Price, who survives.

 

Also surviving are two sons, Thomas (Faylene) Dove and Jeffrey (Linda) Dove of La Porte; two daughters, Tamara (James) Bartholomew of New Carlisle and Jennifer (Glenn “Doug”) Downey of South Bend; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Brett) Bales of La Porte; one brother, James of La Porte; three sisters, Wilma Long, Annabelle Kessler of La Porte, and Debra Morrie of New Carlisle; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

 

Preceding in death were his parents; wife, Lorraine; three brothers, William, Larry, and Jerry; four sisters, Nellie Barger, Martha Dunfee, Geneva Kessler, and Winifred Stantz.

 

Robert proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from June 13th, 1956 and received an honorable discharge on June 12th, 1960. His four years of service included a tour of Japan. Robert worked most of his adult life in management at Arno Adhesive Tapes and at Sandusky Abrasive Wheel Company in Michigan City. He volunteered driving children to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and rode on the 4th of July parade float with the band a few times. Robert also served several years as a volunteer fireman with the fire department in Stillwell. He was a past member of the New Carlisle Community Church, where he served as a deacon, board member, and a member of the personnel committee. Robert enjoyed traveling, golf, family, and friends.

 

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, May 24th, 2023 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Allen Dybdahl officiating. Visitation and viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery with full Military Honors.
