Douglas Webb Utpatel

Douglas Webb Utpatel, affectionately known as Doug, passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2023, in La Porte, Indiana. Born on February 2th, 1952, in Michigan City, Indiana to John W. and Frances (Potkey) Utpatel, Doug lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and friends.

 

Doug is survived by his loving wife Patricia "Patsy" Hill Utpatel, whom he married on May 7th, 2016. He was a devoted father to his children, Robert and Jeff Utpatel, both of Michigan City, and a caring stepfather to George (Leanne) Hayes of La Porte, Indiana, and William (Mary) Hayes of Tippecanoe, Indiana. Doug was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Pamela (Steven) Foldenauer of Somerville, Tennessee. Doug was preceded in death by his brother, John David Utpatel.

 

Doug's strong work ethic and dedication to his craft were evident throughout his career as an electrician. He retired from Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Mill, formerly known as ArcelorMittal, after 51 years of service. His expertise and commitment to his profession were admired by his colleagues and will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of working with him.

 

Outside of work, Doug was an active member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association, where he forged lifelong friendships and enjoyed countless adventures on the open road. He loved golf and was also an avid White Sox fan, never missing a game and always cheering on his beloved team with unwavering enthusiasm.

 

Doug's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. His warm smile, infectious laugh, and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him. As we remember Doug, we celebrate the joy and happiness he brought to our lives and the lasting impact he made on our hearts.

 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 25th, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. 

 

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26th, 2023, at the Funeral Home where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jeff Zigler will officiate.
