Jonathan David Carlson

Jonathan David Carlson passed away on May 18, 2023, at his residence in South Bend, Indiana. He was born on October 19, 1964 at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of Rev. Marvin and Shirley Carlson.

Jonathan moved to La Porte with his family in 1974 when his father became the pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church. He attended Door Village School, Kesling Junior High and was a member of the 1983 graduating class of LaPorte High School.

During his teenage and young adult years Jonathan worked for Garwood Orchards in La Porte. He then spent several years in Minneapolis before moving back to Indiana. He has resided in South Bend for the past twenty years.

Jonathon was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Marvin Carlson, his step-father, Rev. Kenneth West and his grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Carlson West and his sisters; Natalie (Gary) Bloomquist of Essex, CT and Kristine (Jerry) Harlow of Union Mills, IN. Also, two nieces; Linnea Bloomquist of West Hartford, CT and Hannah (Mark) Kominske of Higganum, CT and one nephew, Jason (Sarah) Ott of La Porte, IN. Also surviving are two great-nephews; Jaxon and Colton Ott and one great-niece; Evelyn Kominske.

Jonathon endured a life long battle with mental illness and addiction. He was quiet and introverted, kind and caring. He had a very soft heart, especially for animals; he was a cat person. He had several cats throughout his lifetime and loved them each dearly.

We are so sad to lose Jonathon, but also thankful that he is now at peace and rests in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. "The strife is over, the battle won."

The family is especially grateful to the Oaklawn Mental Health and Addiction Center in South Bend for all of the care and help they have given Jonathon over the years. God bless them and all of the good work that they do.

Any memorial gifts may be directed to the Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center; 2855 IN-2, La Porte, IN 46350 in Jonathan's memory to extend his love animals into the future.

Arrangements are entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Service; 602 Maple Ave. La Porte, IN 46350. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 24th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Carmel Chapel Cemetery in La Porte, IN. with Pastor Dennis Meyers officiating
