David A. Levenhagen

David was born on April 7th, 1947 and passed away at home May 15th, 2023 after a courageous battle of 3 years with cancer. He was a man of faith who was loving and one of a kind.

He leaves behind his brother, Tom (Evelyn) of LaPorte; his parents; younger brother, Dan; and his son, Ryan Higley, whom he loved dearly are waiting for him with open arms in heaven.

Dave is also survived by his wife, Janice, the love of his life of 39 years; and the following whom he loved with all his heart, his daughter, Michele (Thom) Kirby; grandchildren, Kaemon and Kaiya Kirby all of Grafton, Ohio; granddaughter, Ashlyn Higley; and special daughter-in-law, Caroline McCord of Carmel, IN. There are many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his support and friendship. A special thank you to Rob and Becky Reider and Dale and Lynn Clapp for transportation and all the love and support during this difficult time.

Dave attended St. John’s Lutheran School and was a member of the church. He graduated from LaPorte High School in 1965 and attended the University of Oklahoma.

Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 -1968. Returning home, he held several positions before joining Horizon Bank in 1974. He always thought of himself as a shy man, but he had a way of making anyone he came in contact with feel like he was their personal banker. Dave worked hard and held the position of Vice President of retail lending and President of the Loan Store. He volunteered and was on the board with several foundations during this time.  He retired from the bank in 1998 and has stayed connected with many of his coworkers through the years.

Dave owned and established Vintage Financial Services in 1998. He wanted to provide more of a one-on-one lending program to help others and also provide counseling on budgeting and managing your money.

Dave was a generous man. He loved helping others but didn’t like being the center of attention or taking credit for his good deeds.

Dave enjoyed traveling, golf, his friends and family, and most of all, he enjoyed life. There will be a void in our hearts and his love and kindness will always be remembered.
