Betty Jean Coons

Betty Jean Coons passed away peacefully on May 7th and went to be with her Lord and Savior and joins her husband Eldon Coons who passed away in 2015.  She resided at Settlers Place Assisted Living in LaPorte since July 2020.  She was born on February 15, 1930 and was 93-years-old.  She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, her father Robert Biddle, mother Alice Cochran, stepfather Louis Cochran and brother Earl Biddle.

 

Betty was active with the Michigan City Moose for many years and was elected Senior Regent.  She was very dedicated in service to the Moose, volunteered for many activities and supported Mooseheart. She enjoyed many activities including gardening, crochet, dancing and traveling.

 

Betty and her husband Eldon were part of the founding members of the Queen of All Saints Credit Union, which is now the Members Advantage Credit Union. They also opened the Karwick Quick Wash, one of the first businesses in Karwick Plaza and an Ice Cream Parlor located in Karwick Plaza in the late 1960’s.

 

She is lovingly remembered by her son Gerald (Karen) Coons, daughter Gale (Mark) Harris, and daughter Cheryl (Garry) Sacks; and their families.  She has 10 grandchildren; Chris (Shanna) Coons, Geoff (Jennifer) Coons, Megan (CJ) Johnson, Crystal (Rion) Bookhart, Brandi (Crystal) Coons, Adam (Lori) Sheeler, Abby (Mark) Papendieck, Christina Sheeler, Isaac (Kari) Sacks, Steven Sacks, Andy (Cassie) Sacks;  17 great grandchildren; Kyra Coons, Layla Coons, Addi Coons, Mason Coons, Evan Coons, Lilly Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Amelia Wingard, Grady Wingard, Madison (Richard) Henderson, Morgan Sheeler, Isabella Papendieck, Tallulah Papendieck, Alivia Sacks, Knollan Sacks, Avery Sacks,  Bryce Sacks, and 2 great-great grandchildren; Anna Henderson, Aria Henderson.

 

The family expresses their thanks to the staff of Settlers Place in LaPorte for the care and love shown to Betty during her stay there.

 

A Mass of Christian burial and celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 12th, 2023 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, IN with  Rev. Jordan Fetcko officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, May 11th, 2023 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Friday at the Queen of All Saints Catholic Church Legacy Center. The Women of the Moose #935 will conduct a memorial service at 5:30 pm Thursday in the funeral chapel.
