Thomas Brown

Thomas Brown, 74, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 25th, 2023 at his home in La Porte, IN.

 

He was born August 28th, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Alice Brown. 

 

Following high school, Thomas, or "Twitch" as many knew him by, joined the Army. He served for three years where he was stationed in Ft. Jackson, Vietnam, South Korea, and finally West Germany. In September of 1969, Thomas moved to Monterey, California to start school. Following graduation, in July of 1975, he made the move to La Porte where he worked for Bendix until retirement in 1999. Thomas was a member of the La Porte VFW and American Legion Harmon Gray Post 83. He was an avid pool shooter and participated on both the American Legion and Casey's Lanes pool leagues. Thomas was best known for doing good in the world and helping others. He enjoyed weekly meals at The Pax Center, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and gardening in the Jackson Street Community Garden. Every day was a holiday in his eyes. Thomas truly woke up each day ready to enjoy whatever life had to offer. 

 

He is survived by his Caregiver, Darla Swanson of La Porte, IN and many beloved friends.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte, IN. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church; 1000 Michigan Ave. La Porte, IN on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:00, with The Rev. Canon Michelle I. Walker officiating. Military Honors will be presented at the American Legion Harmon Gray Post 83 on Lincolnway after the service. Cremation will take place.
