Mary Florence Allen

Mary Florence Allen, 68, surrounded by her family, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, April 16th, 2023.

 

She was born on December 8th, 1954  in Brazil, IN, to George and Lucille (Kaminski) Grover.

 

On October 5th, 1974 in La Porte, IN, she married John Richard Allen Jr., who survives.  Also surviving are her children, Elizabeth Allen of La Porte and John R. (Carrie) Allen III of Walkerton; 5 grandchildren, Claudia, Caitlyn, and John R. Allen IV, all of Walkerton and Cheyanne and Gabriel Allen, both of La Porte; siblings, Nancy Bachelor of Shelby Township,  MI and Ron (Pennie) Grover of Ray, MI; mother-in-law, Dolores Allen of Walkerton; sister-in-law, Vicki (Ed) Smith of Chesapeake, VA; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Dianne) Allen of La Porte and Guy (Christine) Allen of Walkerton; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and foster grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ed, Len, and Michael Grover; father-in-law, John R. Allen Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Tammy Corley and Marta Lott.

 

Mary authored poetry, children's stories, and women's fiction, all rooted in the truth of Christ.  She was a member of the IN Chapter of the American Christian Fiction Writers, where she held the office of treasurer, and was a 2010-11 La Porte Poet Laureate.  Mary enjoyed bird watching, being outdoors, writing, and the accordion.  Most importantly, Mary dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at La Porte Assembly of God.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
