Sharon Whitacre

Sharon Whitacre, 88, of La Porte, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14th, 2023, at her home in La Porte, Indiana.

 

She was born on Tuesday, September 4th, 1934, to Meta (Hannemann) Moore and Claude Moore.

 

She married Donald K. Whitacre on May 6th, 1956 and was married for 55 years until his passing on December 24th, 2011.

 

She is survived by her children, Rick (Cindy) Whitacre, Tamara (David) Gaul, Lori (Robert) Cabanaw, and David Whitacre; her grandchildren, Matthew (Whitney) Whitacre, Zachary Whitacre and Jared Gaul; and two great-grandchildren, Georgia and Verity. She is also survived by special friends, Sonya Tarnow, Mona Manning, Rob Mays; and her good friends, Mary and Laura.  

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her favorite cousin, Dorothy Mae Lindborg, and her beloved dog, Bear.

 

Sharon was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and the Bethany Lutheran Church Ladies Quilting group, she also enjoyed cross-stitching and knitting. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved spending winters in Clearwater Florida, going to the beaches and watching the sunsets on the ocean. She loved her flowers and watching the birds in her yard. Sharon was a registered nurse who worked in various hospitals and doctor’s offices. She was also a Parish nurse. Her enthusiasm for life and kind-heartedness for others was witnessed by all those who knew and loved her. Sharon never met a stranger. She was very active in church activities, her strong faith in the Lord, and her daily devotions and prayers for all her friends, family, and even strangers were constant.

 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 20th, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. following the visitation. Pastor Dennis Meyer will officiate. Burial will take place at Union Mills Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Sharon.
