Arlene Mae "Boo" Avery

Arlene Mae “Boo” Avery, 94, of La Porte, Indiana passed away peacefully with Arlene was born on September 3rd, 1928, in her home in rural Galena Township, to LeRoy and Margaret (Proud) Rumbaugh. Arlene graduated from Rolling Prairie High School and La Porte Business College. 

 

On October 7th, 1950, she married George R. Avery at St Peter Catholic Church. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Moore Abstract Company. Arlene enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Notre Dame Women’s basketball. She was a long-time member of St Peter Catholic Church serving as a Catechist, and collection counter. She also was a member of the Madonna Circle and Co-Chair of the funeral dinner committee. Arlene was a longtime volunteer at the former La Porte Hospital and mentored second and third graders at Handley School. Service and Hospitality were central to her personality.

 

She is survived by sons, Mark Avery of Aurora, Illinois, David (Teresa) Avery of Denver, Colorado, and Brian (Jennifer) Avery of Indianapolis. She is further survived by grandchildren, Colin, Morgan (Bill Trotter) Avery, Tanner, Cassie, Hallie (fiancée, Keegan Northern); and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death on October 2nd, 2002, by her husband George; parents, and a sister, Edna DePoy.

 

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, at Holy Family Parish, St Peter Catholic Church, 1101 Michigan Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. following the visitation in the church.  Burial will be 2:00 p.m. at Pine Lake Cemetery.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, in LaPorte, Indiana.
