Donna Rae Newton

Donna Rae Newton, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family.

 

She was born August 7, 1935, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Edwin and Laura (Moiser) Brown.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Donna attended La Porte High School and worked as a secretary for the La Porte County Schools. On November 6, 1954, in La Porte, she married Melvin Newton, who preceded her in death on May 19, 2011. Donna lived life to the fullest and together with Melvin she enjoyed playing Euchre, square dancing, roller skating and traveling, and camping in their motorhome. They traveled to all 50 states, but Donna especially loved Denver and Alaska. Donna was an avid bowler along with her sisters, collected hummingbirds and just last year rode The Thunderbird roller coaster, the Mammoth water ride, and her final ride at the fair on the Twin Flip, laughing the whole time. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a loving and devoted Christian, who deeply cared about her God and her family.

 

Donna is survived by her daughter, Pamela Newton of La Porte, IN; longtime friend, Wayne McClaren; two grandchildren, Scott (Tesa) Koziatek and Melodee Koziatek; 5 great-grandchildren, Courtney, Cory, Codee, Connor, and Caitlyn; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Landyn, Brooklyn, and Asher.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Melvin.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN, where the family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 10:00 until service time at noon, with Elder Rick Lute, officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana, with prayers from Pastor John Conteras.
