Carey (Goldenstern) Johnson

Carey (Goldenstern) Johnson passed away on September 3, 2022, at Northwest Health – Porter Hospital due to post-surgery complications. A lifelong resident of La Porte, she was born on February 27, 1969, to F. Lynn and Mary Beth (Burden) Goldenstern.

Once a Slicer, always a Slicer, Carey graduated from LaPorte High School, class of ’87. On March 7, 1992, she married the love of her life, Michael Johnson, and they spent 30 rich years together. In 2012, she retired after 20 years of working at LaPorte Hospital. A lifelong sports fan, you could always count on her cheering on her Cubbies and Notre Dame football. A lover of the simple things, she enjoyed her time fishing, going to the “casin-yes,” or finding some new piece of furniture to refinish.

Carey was preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Jenifer (Goldenstern) Wells; father, F. Lynn Goldenstern; her in-laws Arthur and Dixie Johnson, and sister-in-law Diane Johnson. Surviving are husband Michael, daughter Katlyn, and son Eric. Also surviving Carey are her mother and siblings, Keith Wells, Julie (Brian) Walker, Jill Conkey, and Michael (Toni) Goldenstern, 19 nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.

A beautiful soul, Carey was loved by all she met and was an amateur comedienne.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Frank L Keszei Funeral Home Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

Her family offers their heartfelt thanks to the ICU nursing staff at Northwest Health – Porter Hospital; their kindness and attentive care were noticed and appreciated.
