Nicholas K. Rebac

Nicholas K. Rebac, 78, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home August 25, 2022. 

 

He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to Frank and Margaret Rebac.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Putz; sons Brian (Stacey) Rebac and Brett Rebac; three sisters Joanna (Dave) Clark, Darlene Chamberlain, and Vicky Boeckling; two brothers Teddy Rebac and Duane Rebac; and his grand dog Romeo.

Nick was a 1962 graduate of Elston High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He then started a 21-year career with the Michigan City Fire Department. During this time, he rose through the ranks to become Assistant Chief and elected President of Fire Fighters Local 475. While on the department he was involved with the State Fire Fighter softball tournaments as both player and coach.

 

In retirement, he was Fire Chief at the Indiana State Prison, served one term as Coolspring Township Trustee and enjoyed golfing.

 

Nick always had Michigan City in his heart. He was a lifelong fan of Michigan City sports and had encyclopedic knowledge of the Red Devils. While living in Las Vegas he was known to call WIMS to get the Red Devil scores during tournament time.

 He loved going to City Football and Basketball games. On any given Friday, Nick could be found on the sidelines helping coaches and referees understand the mistakes they had made.

 

Private family services will be conducted. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
