Marilyn Jane Grimes, 75, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at her home.

 

Marilyn was born on July 11, 1947 in La Porte, IN, to Arthur and Mildred (Burke) Grimes.

 

Surviving Marilyn are her daughter, Ashley (Scott) Martinelli of La Porte; granddaughter, Elizabeth Edlen of La Porte; sister, Carole Grimes of LeRoy, IL; and nephew, Christopher (Jackie) Grimes of Pinellas Park, FL.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gerry Grimes.

 

Marilyn was an elementary school teacher for 37 years at Crichfield Elementary School.  She enjoyed participating in numerous after school activities and clubs, such as D.A.R.E., ring toss, and track.  Marilyn loved riding her scooter in the neighborhood, sitting in the sun, watching the bird feeders, and taking trips with her family to the zoo.  In addition to caring for her classroom students, Marilyn cared for several foster children.  Marilyn was the kind of teacher that remembered her past students by name and was always happy to have a conversation reminiscing on her days at Crichfield.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
