Jo Ann Harber

Jo Ann Harber, 90, formerly of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

 

She was born March 30, 1932, in Lapaz, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Strauch and Ellenora (Bassler) Strauch.

 

Jo was a Special Education teacher at the Michigan City School System, retiring in 1994 after 20+ years.  Jo was also a Special Olympic Team Coach winning State competition and attending Nationals in Atlanta. She was a member of the American Legion Post # 400 Auxiliary, Life Member of R-IND State Teachers & National Education Association, Department Chair for the La Porte County Teachers Association, President of the Michigan City School Union, Fish Lake Property Owners, Fish Lake Conservation Club, L.O.V.E. Club, Life Member of La Porte Hospital Auxiliary, Life Member of IU Alumni Association, Coordinator, and driver for Meals on Wheels.  Jo had many other leadership roles throughout her life.

 

On September 23, 1950 she married the love of her life William Harber who preceded her in death in 2019.

 

She is survived by her three daughters,, Debby (Jonathon) Harber of Fredericksburg, VA,  Judie (Ralph) Rankin of Hamlet, IN, Valri Harber of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Three Sons, Bruce Harber of Hamlet, IN, Joell (Vicki) Harber of Beverly Shores, IN, Robyn (Francisca) Harber of Mexico; Five Grandchildren, William E. Keck III, Justina M. Keck, William R. Harber, Alex Harber, and Aurora Harber; Four Great Grandchildren, William E. Keck IV, Kaden J. Keck, Analyn R. Keck and Lillianne M. Herring.

 

Jo was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN.  There will be a visitation on Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 9:30AM to 11:00AM where the family will receive friends.  A life celebration will be held at 11:00AM at Haverstock Funeral Home.
