Victor Lavern Hlavsa

Victor Lavern Hlavsa, 96, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Victor was born on October 5, 1925, in Chicago, IL to Victor Frank Hlavsa and Nellie (Rose) Beyer.

On September 3, 1950 in La Porte, IN, he married the love of his life, Anna Marie Harden who preceded him in death on March 14, 2016.  Surviving Victor are his children, Carolyn (Ted) Reinert of Hutto, TX and Victor (Charity) Hlavsa  of La Porte; granddaughter, Shalin (Logan) Woody of Pflugerville, TX; and 2 great-granddaughters, Phoebe and Piper Woody.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Victor resided in South Bend, IN until he enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1943.  He proudly served as a Corporal and was one of the first troops in Japan after they dropped the bomb.  While in the Marine Corp, with the encouragement of family members, he started corresponding with Anna. Soon after returning from the war, he and Anna were married and remained together “until death do they part”.  Victor and Anna are now, truly, together forever.

Victor’s day job was as an insurance inspector with ISO for almost 30 years.  Forever the “Gadget Guy” and a forward thinker, he was always tinkering with things trying to figure them out; trying to come up with new and improved ways to do whatever it was better.  He retired at 55 so he could focus on his many entrepreneurial ventures, including Mr. Handy, Software Corner, CB Headquarters, Coffee Time, EnerTech, working with microcomputers, and even partnering with Ohio Scientific Inc (OSI), just to name a few.

A time of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 27, 2022.  Immediately following the visitation will be a Celebration of Life Service at 4:30 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Gregory Comer officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.
