Mary Elizabeth Zapala, 75, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Northwest Health - La Porte.

 

Mary was born on April 30, 1947 in Paducah, KY, to Rex and Mary (Mitchell) Nicholson.

 

On Januray 6, 1973, she married Richard Zapala who preceded her in death.  Surviving Mary are her children, Kimberly Zapala, Richard (Kim H.) Zapala Jr., and Mark Zapala; 9 grandchildren, Kaylee (Chris K.) Zapala, Mark (Nicole) Burklow, Alexandria (Kyle) Zapala McCallum, Kailey McMahan, Tara Zapala, Jordyn Zapala, Kyria Zapala, Tiffany (Josh) Smiley, and CJ Hmurovic; 9 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ahnamarie, Riley, Rylan, Liam, Easton, Mason, Everly, and Phillip; siblings, Joanne Litzsinger, Beverly (Jim) Martin, and Phyllis Goldberg;  as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

 

Mary was a manager for more than 25 years at Aurelio's .  She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, completing Suduku puzzles, and eating out.  Mary also enjoyed serving at her Parish events.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. 

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 Bach Street, La Porte, IN 46350.
