James "Jim" E. Robinson

James "Jim" E. Robinson, 79, of La Porte, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

   

Jim was born in La Porte, on April 12, 1943 to the late William and Margaret (Norris) Robinson. He was a 1962 graduate of Mill Creek High School and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves, stationed at Kingsbury, IN.

 

On December 29, 1972 in Portage, IN, he married Bonnie Felton White. 

 

Jim worked as a Pipefitter through Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 172, South Bend, IN.  He spent several years of his career working for Dye Mechanical of La Porte, IN.  Jim also ran his own business for several years and was working for D. A. Dodd Mechanical Contractor, Rolling Prairie, IN when he retired in 2002.  He was a 50 year member of the Union.

 

Jim was a member of the La Porte Loyal Order of The Moose #492, where he served as a past governor.  He was also a member of the American Legion #83, P.R.C.U., the La Porte Falcons, and a member of the Masons. Jim was a member of the Barbershop Chorus and a Barbershop Quartet in the 1960's-1970's. 

 

Jim was very outgoing.  He would often strike up a conversation and befriend people wherever he went. Jim will always be remembered as being a character.

 

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie (Felton) Robinson; children, Lee White of La Porte, Ruth (Craig) Lile of Walkerton, IN, Jeff (Ann) Robinson of La Porte, and Matt (Jackie) Robinson of La Porte; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Lee White; brother, William Robinson; and granddaughter Christina Woods.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Bonnie Robinson, 2900 Monroe St., La Porte, IN  46350.
