Leland L. Pierce

Leland L. Pierce, 80, of Michigan City, passed away unexpectedly at 11:31 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City.

 

He was born February 8, 1942, in Clarks, Nebraska, to Leonard and Marie (Steinke) Pierce.

Leland honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Michigan City. Leland formerly volunteered at the front desk for St. Anthony’s Hospital, Michigan City. He enjoyed watching movies starring his hero, John Wayne. His wife and him enjoyed traveling to the West Coast, Canada, and Mexico. Leland will be miss for his sense of humor.

 

On August 24, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Pierce, who proceeded him in death. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage. After the passing of his wife, he was grateful for the companionship he had with his dog, Hawkeye.

 

Also preceding in death were his parents; and one brother, Jean Pierce.

 

Surviving are his daughter, LeeAnn (Eric) Jones of La Porte; nephew, Wayne (Tina) Jacobs of Columbus, Nebraska; niece, Corrina (Tom) Davis of Columbus, Nebraska; one sister, Jennie Rose Jacobs of Columbus, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Riley and Lilyann Jones; great-niece, Andrea Jacobs; great-nephew, Jaxson Davis; and close friends and caretakers, Grace Oliveri and Sherri Winslett.

 

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100 with Chaplain Lauren Mache officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
