Sheila Ann Pressel (Update)

Sheila Ann Pressel , 86, of Union Mills, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 in her home.  

   

Sheila was born in La Porte, IN, on September 6, 1935 to Fay W. and Sabra Maxine (Beck) Parker. She lived in Union Township her entire life.

 

Surviving Sheila are her 3 children, Eric D. Pressel of Union Mills, Andrea L. (Johnnie) Wiley of Fayetteville, NC, and Tracy E. Hayter of La Porte; 3 grandchildren, Victoria S. Hayter and Luke R. Hayter both of La Porte and April M. Minix of Wade, NC; sister, Karen Parker Scott of Highland, IN, sister-in-law Margaret Kreag of Peru, IN, and brother-in-law James Robert Pressel Sr. of Union Mills. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ben Alan Parker.

 

A graduate of Union Township High School, Sheila received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Ball State University. She worked as a school nurse for the La Porte Community School Corporation and, after raising her family, for VNA and in medical records.

 

Sheila was a member of the Liberty Belles Home-Ec Club, People to People International, the La Porte County Historical Society, and the Miriam Benedict Chapter of DAR. She was a lifelong member of the Tracy United Methodist Church and was especially involved in United Methodist Women where she served as a district president. She enjoyed studying the Bible and prayed regularly for those she knew. She was interested in gardening, wildlife, reading, Christmas cookie baking, visiting with friends, traveling, and meeting people from around the world. She loved spending time with extended family at her summer home on Drummond Island, MI. She believed in the importance of education, integrity, and faith and raised her family accordingly.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Tracy United Methodist Church with Pastors Kay Bond and Kalvin Morrison officiating.  Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Pine Lake Cemetery. 

 

A time of visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. 

 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tracy United Methodist Church, 1702 E. US Hwy 6 & 35 Hamlet, IN 46532 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
