Robert “Bob” Glen Gifford, 60, of La Porte, passed away unexpectedly at 3:35 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
He was born January 16, 1962, in Blue Island, Illinois, to Robert Wayne and Jacqueline (Winker) Gifford.
Bob was an engineer at Howmet for over 30 years. He was a laid-back, generous and caring person. Bob was also a compassionate person who was always the first to volunteer to help others. He was hardworking and enjoyed volunteering in the La Porte County Schools to help local students with their school work. Bob enjoyed various golf clubs and pool leagues through his work and loved walking with his wife, Debra, and traveling. His favorite place to visit was the beach. Bob will be lovingly remembered as funny, humble, and generous.
On July 23, 1983, in La Porte, Indiana he married, Debra Ann (Sims) Gifford, who survives. Together they spent 38 wonderful years of marriage.
Also surviving are his parents, Robert (Sharyn) Gifford of Villages, FL and Jackie (Jim) Reeder of La Porte; one daughter, Amanda (Darryl) Stevens of Austin, TX; one stepson, Gerald (Megan Murphy) Sims of Salt Lake City, UT; four sisters, Tammy (Ed) Zawada of La Porte, Sherry (Pat) Schellinger of Bloomingdale, IL, Janet (Larry) Morris of Glen Ellen, IL, and Karyn (Todd) Lindquist of Homewood, IL; one granddaughter, Isabella Stevens; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Preceding in death were his paternal grandparents, Ruth and Wayne Gifford; and maternal grandparent, John Glen Winker.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100, with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Cremation will take place.
