Sheila Marie (Young) Stoewer, age 74 of LaPorte, passed away at Millers Health and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, March 7, 2022. 

 

Sheila was born September 9, 1947 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Carl and Freda (Rensburger) Young.  She was a graduate of LaPorte High School, class of 1966.  On May 18, 1968, she married David Stoewer. 

 

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David Stoewer of LaPorte, and their children Michael (Crystal Petitt) Stoewer of North Port, Florida and Dana (Tom) Gonder of LaPorte.  Surviving as well are her grandchildren, Morgan Livinghouse, Madeline Livinghouse, Pace Stoewer, Blaise Stoewer and Hailey Gonder; great-grandchildren, Liam and Nolan Payton; and her sisters, Shelley (Rip) Ludlow, Karla (Jody) Schoff, and Anita (Patrick) Sightes, all of LaPorte.  Her sister, Becky Downs preceded her in death. 

 

Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm Friday, March 11, 2022 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in LaPorte.

 

A celebration of Sheila’s life will follow at noon with Pastor Bob Vale presiding. Sheila will be laid to rest at a later date in Patton Cemetery.

 

Sheila was employed for over 24 years as a bookkeeper with Kabelin Hardware before retiring on December 31, 2009.  In her spare time, she enjoyed making arts and crafts, attending local craft shows, festivals, and car shows, and shopping for antiques with her husband David. 

 

Most of all, Sheila was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.  Spending time with them became the most important activity in her life.

 

In her memory, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
