Richard A. Dutcher, Sr.

Richard A. Dutcher, Sr., 74, La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 7:00 am in his home.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Pastor Robbie Britton officiating. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Saturday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.    

 

He was born April 26, 1947 in Valparaiso, IN to the late Francis and Frances (Prescott) Dutcher. On May 16, 1970 in Michigan City, IN he married Sharon Lowder who survives in La Porte, IN.

 

Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Ben) Mehling of Mishawaka, IN and Paula Switzer of Michigan City, IN; son, Richard A. (Wendy) Dutcher, Jr. of La Porte, IN; seven grandchildren, Justin (Michelle), Brianna (Jonathon), Jackson, Peyton, Deven, Lydia and Gabe; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail; and his brother, Frank (Wanda) Dutcher of Valparaiso, IN.

 

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine Darling and Virginia Cortez; and three brothers, James, Gary and Kenny Dutcher. 

 

Richard retired as a millwright at U.S. Steel. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union for 42 years and enjoyed fishing, singing, target shooting and playing pool.

The family would like to extend an acknowledgment to Nancy and the entire staff of Dunes Hospice.
