Richard Ralph Liles, 77, of Michigan City, passed away unexpectedly at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City.

 

He was born May 15, 1944, in Gary, Indiana, to Ronald and Helen (Darosky) Liles.

Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Ball as a forklift driver and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America for 35 plus years. Richard was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, Michigan City. He enjoyed fly fishing, setting a record in Monticello, Indiana. Richard also enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking trips, going to amusement parks, and to the movies every weekend with family. His generosity to his community showed with volunteer work at soup kitchens and helping the homeless. Richard was a family man and he made a point to go out every Friday or Saturday night to spend time with the family on outings.

 

Surviving are his two children, Robert (Nicole) Liles of Michigan City, and Anthony Liles of La Porte; two sisters, Ruth Combs of Louisville, KY, and Dorothy Kearby Moore of Portage; close grandchild, Zechariah; several grandchildren; and nieces, Jessica and Rachelle Paul.

 

Preceding in death were his parents; and one sister, Joan Paul.

 

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 West Johnson Rd, LaPorte, (219) 362-3100. Visitation and viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation will take place following the service.
