Maria Gentile, November 4, 1932-February 10, 2022,  89, of Peru, Indiana, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at home surrounded by her family.

 

She was born November 4, 1932, in Palermo, Italy, the daughter of Vito and Paulina Ingui.

 

Formerly of La Porte, Maria was a devout catholic and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was a homemaker and a seamstress who enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  Maria loved watching her favorite game shows and WWE wrestling on TV while she delighted in a bowl of coffee ice cream.  Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Maria is survived by her son, Carmine (Lynn) Gentile of Peru, IN; two daughters, Rose (Carlos) Santini of Winter Garden, FL, Rita (Jim) Strobel of Brick, NJ; seven grandchildren, Tina (Toby) Carter, Carmine (Tara) Gentile, Joseph (Holly) Gentile, Jennifer (Mike) Williamson, Carla (Rick) Belin, Jane Marie (Dave) Ippolito, Jimmy Strobel and 15 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Diego Gentile,who passed away September 3, 2009.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. where a catholic funeral service will be held Monday, February 14, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Father Nathan Edquist, officiating.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
