Darlene D. Hindsley

Darlene D. Hindsley, April 2, 1933-February 8, 2022, 88, of Walkerton, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Miller's Health and Rehab in La Porte, IN.

 

She was born April 2, 1933 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Alfred M. Schoof and Annabelle (Rahfeldt) Schoof.

 

On October 17, 1953, in La Porte, IN., Darlene married Robert Devon HIndsley, who preceded her in death June 13, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandson, Oakley.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Darlene was a member of La Porte Missionary Church and the Fish Lake Property Owners Association. She retired from Kingsbury elementary school, having worked as a librarian and teacher's aide. Darlene was also a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, cleaning and tending to her yard. She was a self-taught oil painter, with many of her paintings hanging in her children's homes.  Her pride and joy, though., were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She never missed one of their sports games or the opportunity to fish with them and every year, she and her granddaughters made dozens of Christmas cookies. 

 

She is survived by her two sons, Lance Robert (Lori) Hindsley of La Porte, IN, Todd J. (Kathy) Hindsley of La Porte; two brothers, Alfred Schoof, Jr. of Houston, TX, Julius "Ink" (Phyllis) Schoof of Fish Lake, IN; two sisters, Dorothy Kramer of La Porte, IN, Janice Hadella of La Porte, IN; five grandchildren, Nick (Melissa) Hindsley, Mandy (Tony) Martin, Blake (Mandy) Hindsley, Brad Hindsley, Kjia (Craig) Woodcox; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin, Tucker, Ryker, Veralynn, Cade, Kennedy, Kehlin, Ayden and several nieces and nephews.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends on Sunday, February 13 from 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m., with a Celebration of her Life Service at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Chris Allen, officiating.   Cremation will take place with interment of cremated remains at a later date.
