Richard Lee Wolhowe

Richard Lee Wolhowe, 86, of LaPorte, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Northwest Health - LaPorte, with family by his side.

 

Richard was born on June 4, 1935 in Thief River Falls, MN, to Lawrence Gustav and Lois Eleanor (Erickson) Wolhowe.

 

On December 22, 1963, in Bagley, MN he married Shirley Jane Colligan.  She passed away on Feb 25, 1997.

 

On May 11, 2002 in Minneapolis, MN, he married Rosalind Goldstein, who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Susan Wolhowe of Minnetonka, MN and Erik Wolhowe of Belton, MO; stepchildren, Jodi (Peter) Barkas of Sun Prairie, WI, Alan (Megan) Epstein of Santa Monica, CA, and Steve (Patti) Epstein of Arkdale, WI; 10 grandchildren; brother, Tom (Margaret) Wolhowe of Staples, MN; brother and sisters-in-law, Raymond (Nancy) Goldstein of Flint, MI, Marilyn Wallace of La Porte, and Cederia Goldstein of Minneapolis, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Shirley Wolhowe; sister-in-law, Sara Colleson; and brothers-in-law, Duane Wallace and Glen Colleson.

 

Richard proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to1958 as a Communications Officer.

 

Richard was a draftsman for many years at Control Data Corporation of Bellvue, WA.  After surrendering his life to his Savior, Richard studied at Outreach Training Center, McIntosh, MN, becoming a trained and dedicated Bible Teacher.

 

He and his wife Rosalind taught Inductive Bible Study classes in their La Porte home for more than 15 years.  Richard enjoyed studying the Bible, and he compiled extensive notes of his studies for the benefit of the many students in the classes, making the Bible text come alive for them.  Richard was a highly-skilled competitive archer and a lifelong baseball fan.   He was a huge influence on those around him, especially on his grandson, Josh.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Harry Funk officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
