Betty Fox Brewe, May 22, 1944 - February 5, 2022, 77, of Michiana Shores, passed away at 3:24 p.m., on Saturday, February 5, 2022 in her home from cancer.
She was born on May 22, 1944, in Chicago, IL, to Robert and Jean (Stewart) Fox.
Betty moved to Indiana and attended Riley Primary School, and then Elston Junior and Senior High, graduating in 1962. She went on to Indiana University where she majored in sociology, graduating in 1966. Betty also earned a Masters Degree in social work from Valparaiso University. Through her working years, Betty was an active member of the community, working at the LaPorte County Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and as the founding director of Dunebrook, Inc. - a center focused on prevention of child abuse. She was a tireless volunteer, working with Children's International Summer Villages (CISV), and the Ruth Sabin Home. She loved walking the beach in search of beach glass or crinoids. In retirement, Betty enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, playing Scrabble, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard; two sons, Eric (Crystal) Brewe and Ian (Molly) Brewe; four grandchildren, Matilda, Everly, Delany, and Theodore; one sister, Jean Fox O’Barr; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death were her parents; and one sister, Sally Rae Fox Perumean.
Cremation will take place. A celebration of life will be held in the summer. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100 is caring for the arrangements.
