Karen Joan Piper, June 5, 1940-January 22, 2022, 81, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle, IN.

 

She was born June 5, 1940, in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Chandler and Florence (Peterson) Piper, who preceded her in death.

 

Karen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was in the first kindergarten class at the St. John school. After graduating from La Porte High School, she worked as a Laboratory Tech at Holy Family Hospital. Karen later went to work at General Telephone Company as a telephone operator, service observer, frame attendant, repair test person, and communication tech.  She went back to school and received an Asso. Degree from Ivy Tech and retired from General Telephone. Karen was active in the La Porte Fine Arts Asso., St John newspaper stuffers, and St. John Thrift shop. She enjoyed traveling, reading, oil and water painting, crocheting, sharing perennial flower plants from her yard, and walking her cousin's dogs.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A private graveside service was held at Patton Cemetery.
