Doris Winifred Thornburg McLean, 92, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Fountainview Terrace - Golden Living Center, La Porte, soon after celebrating her ninety-second birthday on January 2.

 

Doris was born on January 2, 1930 in Walkerton, IN, to George F. and Bertha (Cavin) Thornburg.

 

After graduating from La Porte High School in 1948, Doris married Robert McLean of Hanna, IN.  Later, she and Bob founded the Plymouth Allis-Chalmers dealership, which they owned for twenty years.  Eventually, Bob and Doris moved from Pretty Lake to Koontz Lake, where they resided until Bob's death on March 20, 2014.

 

Following Bob's death, Doris moved to Oak Woods Manor and eventually to Fountainview Terrace - Golden Living Center.

 

Surviving Doris are her brother, Myron "Whitey" (Joanne) Thornburg; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Dick) Ott; nephews, Chuck Taylor, Wilson Taylor, Rick Thornburg, Dave Thornburg, David Ott, and Brad Ott; and nieces, Cindy Cains, Laura Kiger, Jan Thornburg, and Sharon Taylor.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rose Taylor; brother, Walt (Thelma) Thornburg; nephews, Phil Thornburg and Bob Taylor.

 

Doris was an Insurance Agent for many years.  In her later years, she loved working at Dunkin Donuts, specifically giving donuts to Police Officers.  She also previously worked at Denny's as a cashier.  Doris enjoyed her time living on Koontz Lake.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Bob Vale officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m.until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
