Marvin Gerald Michiaels, Jr.

Marvin Gerald Michiaels, Jr., May 19, 1952 – January 9, 2022, Marvin Gerald Michiaels, Jr., 69, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 2 p.m., on Sunday, January 9, 2022, in his home.

 

He was born May 19, 1952, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Marvin Gerald and Loretta (Groezinger) Michiaels, Sr.

 

Marvin drove a truck for Nationwide Midwest, Michigan City, for many years and received many safe driver awards.  He was a hard worker and worked until he was forced to retire due to his illness. Marvin enjoyed attending barbecues, fishing and watching Notre Dame football, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, Professional Bull Riding and MOPAR Drag Racing.  He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with his wife, Teresa, several times a year. Marvin was known as the Master of Ceremonies at family reunions and auctions.

 

On September 2, 1995, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Vivian Teresa (Lyerla) Michiaels, who survives.

 

Also surviving are his mother,  Loretta Michiaels of La Porte; three children, Marvin (Rosie) Michiaels, III of New Carlisle, Jody (John) Strain of Rolling Prairie and Amy (Michael) MacLeod of Fish Lake; three stepchildren, Tim Smelko of Seattle, Washington, Shannon (Dave) Luketich of La Porte and Sara McClure of La Porte; three brothers, Bill Michiaels (Mary) of South Carolina, Tom (Connie) Michiaels of Florida and John (Kim) Michiaels of Mill Creek; one sister, Carlene Patzka of Trail Creek; ten grandchildren, Joshua Mullins, Jamie Michiaels, Jeffery Michiaels, Jr., Jessica (Scott) Webb, Dalton Qualls and John Strain, Austin Luketich, Hannah Cook, L.J. Smelko and Emma McClure; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding in death were his father; Marvin Michiaels Sr; son, Jeffery Michiaels Jr.; and grandson, Seth Patrick Qualls.

 

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Visitation and viewing will be from 2 p.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.  Cremation will take place following the service.
