Norman Charles Swedersky, Jr

Norman Charles Swedersky, Jr.,  March 17, 1950 - January 9, 2022, 71, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Munster Community Hospital.

 

He was born March 17, 1950 in Michigan City, IN, the son of Norman C. and Donna (Reasoner) Swedersky.

 

Norman attended La Porte High School and joined the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He worked as a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel, retiring after 35 years and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. Norman was a member of American Legion Post 434, Kingsford Heights and was in several bowling leagues at Casey Lanes, T-Bird, Camelot and City Lanes.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, fireworks, camping and feeding his birds. Norman was a die-hard Cubs fan and was a season ticket holder for Notre Dame basketball.  He operated C.B. radios from home and his handles were Bedroom Bandit and Gray Fox.

 

Norman is survived by his wife, Emma; sons Tony Swedersky of Walkerton and Charlie Swedersky of La Porte; brothers, Steve (Judith) Swedersky of Michigan City, Dale (Sandra) Swedersky of Koontz Lake, IN and Randy (Vickey) Swedersky of Hudson Lake, IN; sister, Pleasant "Peggy" (Janko) Gagaleski of Sparta, GA; grandchildren, Seth (Stephanie) Metcalf of La Porte, Chase (Terena) Swedersky of Terre Haute, Tyler Swedersky of La Porte; granddogs, Libby and Rizzo and several nieces and nephews.

 

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather Donald L. Alumbaugh.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.   A Celebration of Norman's Life service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow at Salem Heights Cemetery. Military honors will be offered.
