Melissa Keppen

Melissa Keppen, December 27, 1979 – December 29, 2021, 42, of La Porte, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City.

 

She was born December 27, 1979, in Webster, Texas, to Glenn A. Cheek and Jennifer L. (Hinesley) Bryant.

 

Melissa graduated from Bremen High School in 1998. She went on to Ivy Tech of South Bend and graduated in 2003 with a nursing degree. She was a breast cancer survivor, and a very proud and loving mother who will be dearly missed. 

 

On October 12, 2013, at Beacon Hills, in La Porte, Indiana, she married Jerald T. Keppen, who survives.

 

Surviving are her mother, Jennifer Bryant of Bremen; father and step mother, Glenn (Carol) Cheek; daughter, Jessica Delgado of La Porte; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Robert “Bob” Keppen both of Michigan City; sisters-in-law, Julie (Brian Litherland) Keppen of Michigan City, and Jamie (Mike) Schroll of Noblesville, IN; two brothers, Derek (Karen) Cheek of McCordville, IN, and Alex Bryant Jr. of Lafayette, IN; two nieces, Laynie Cheek of McCordsville, IN, and Riley Litherland of Michigan City; three nephews, Brody, Owen and Leo Schroll all of Noblesville, IN.

 

Preceding in death were her maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Albert Roach; paternal grandparents, Chauncey and Margaret Cheek; step-father, Alex Bryant, Sr.; and nephew, Jacob “Jake” Litherland.

 

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2022 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Brian Parker officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
