Dennis Mahaffey

Dennis Mahaffey, 76, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 10:30 pm in his home.

 

Per his wishes, private family services will be conducted at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.    

 

He was born November 1, 1945, in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Ralph and Margaret (Esper) Mahaffey. On March 15, 1969, he married Mary Ordino who preceded him in death on September 9, 1996. On September 10, 2017, he married Janis Kazmucha who survives in Michigan City, IN.

 

Also surviving are three sons, Richard (Nichole) Mahaffey of Michigan City, Indiana, Timothy Mahaffey of Mishawaka, Indiana and Robert (Wende) Gliva of Walkerton, Indiana; adopted son, Jay (Jamie) Slutzkin of Michigan City, IN; six grandchildren, Alex Mahaffey, Miranda Mahaffey, Preston Mahaffey, Mary Mahaffey, Brooke Gliva and Devyn Gliva; adopted grandchild, Sam Slutzkin; and brother, Patrick (Joanne) Mahaffey of Michigan City, Indiana.

 

He was also preceded in death by his brother Michael Mahaffey.   

 

Dennis was the Co-Owner and President of L&R Body Shop and was extremely proud to be a United States Marine serving in Vietnam from 1964-1968.  He was a member of the Moose Family Center 980, D.A.V. 23, VFW Post 2536, and the John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37.  Dennis was a true gentleman who was very giving, always willing to lend a hand, and very talented having built his own home. He loved watching Jeopardy, working in his perennial garden, feeding the birds, fishing, playing pool, and bowling. He bowled several 300 games as well as several 299 games. For over 40 years he organized his annual "DR-Wood Invitational" bowling tournament which filled the bowling alley every year with 64 teams. Dennis was a huge Chicago White Sox fan.
