George William Glassman

George William Glassman, 77, of La Porte, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in his home.

 

He was born August 14, 1944, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Harry H. and Lydia G. (Irk) Glassman.

 

George attended Rolling Prairie High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, actively serving in the Vietnam War. George retired from La Porte County Highway Department after 37 years of service.

 

His hobbies included fishing, gardening, puzzles and playing cards.

 

On December 18, 1971, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Diane (Fritzen) Glassman, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Brandon (Abby Battaglia) Glassman of La Porte; two brothers, Charles (Sharon) Glassman and Lawrence Glassman both of La Porte; three sisters, Fran Pollard and Rose Deutscher both of La Porte and Betty Clark of Michigan City; five grandchildren, Trevor Tidy, Grace (David) Blackwell, Alan Garber and Beckham and Vivien Battaglia; and one great granddaughter, Penelope “Pip” Blackwell.

 

Preceding in death were his parents; one sister, Shirley Shepperson; one brother, Harvey Glassman; and one son, Jarrod “Jerry” Glassman.

 

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie.
