Joan Claire (Patton) Cooper, 81, of Michigan City, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Franciscan Health, Michigan City.

 

On January 24, 1940, Joan was born in Hammond, IN, to Jack and Jessie (Barney) Patton of Hammond, IN.

 

On October 6, 1967, she married her loving husband of 54 years, Buddy Cooper, who survives.  Also surviving are her 4 children, Joe (Cindy Streeting) Cooper, Jeff (Lori) Cooper, Jack Cooper, and JoEllen (Ted) Pagels; 7 grandchildren, Heather Evans, Jessica LaTourette, Abigail Marquiss, Mallory Marquiss, Brandon (Angie) Cooper, Benjamin Cooper, and Marc Cooper; 4 great-grandchildren, Austyn Cooper, Zoie LaTourette, Logan LaTourette, and Madison Evans; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janet Scrivnor.

 

Joan earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Purdue University, then honorably served in the U.S. Navy.  She was a Registered Nurse for 35 years. In addition, Joan was a member of the USN Drill Team.  She enjoyed traveling, vacationing, and visiting casinos.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
