Stephen J. Grott

Stephen J. Grott, 78, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

 

Stephen was born December 10, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was adopted by Paul and Dorothy Grott.  He grew up farming and loved it to the end.  He was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 150 where he operated heavy equipment, especially the cranes.  Steve was very proud that he had the #1 crane operating license in Chicago.  He loved to go to work!

 

Stephen is survived by his wife, Carol; brother, Bernard Grott; children, Debra (Brett) Mohlka, Jo Ellen (Richard) Schmidt, and Colonel Colborne; granddaughter, Haley (Duston) Hudgens; great-grandson, Konnor; nephews, Roger Grott, Doug Grott, and Jimmy Grott; and nieces, Joyce and Mary.

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff; his nephew Paul, and his parents.

Steve served his country in the United States Marine Corps, was a member of the Marine Corp League, American Veterans, Local 150 Retirees Club, and the Veterans Treatment Court.

 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 12 noon, Monday, August 23, 2021, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A memorial service will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home on Monday. Chaplin Jim Hannon will officiate. Military honors will immediately follow.
