Marilyn June Smutzer

Marilyn June Smutzer, 96, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 6:20 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021 in her home. She lived in her home and made many memories there from 1953 up till the time of her passing.

 

She was born August 2, 1924, in Michigan City, Indiana, to William and Gladys (Brown) Wedow.

 

Marilyn graduated from high school in Michigan City in 1941 at the age of 17. She worked for Allis-Chalmers, working last as an accounting clerk up till when the company closed. Marilyn was a former member of the former Trinity Lutheran Church, La Porte. She was very health conscience having used remedies for staying healthy. Marilyn was an avid Chicago Bulls fan, keeping score each season every year. She had a love of dogs, especially for the Boston Bulldogs she owned over the years.

 

On May 3, 1947, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in La Porte, Indiana, she married Orval Ray Smutzer, who preceded her in death October 31, 1996.

 

Also preceding in death were her parents; one son, Bruce Smutzer; and four siblings, Lyle Wedow, Beverly Hack, Norman Wedow and Barbara Adrian.

 

Surviving are her son, Ronald “Willie” (Melody) Smutzer of La Porte; four grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Kalkirtz, Georgene (EJ Rogers) Smutzer, RJ Boyd and Jennifer Boyd; five great grandchildren, Jaden Solar, Adrianna Boyd, Josilynn Boyd, Travis Deutscher and Athena Boyd; and one sister-in-law, Betty Wedow; and two nephews, Steve Smutzer of Florida and Rusty “Mike” (Kelly) Smutzer of La Porte.

Cremation will take place. A private graveside service will be held at Patton Cemetery, La Porte. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 is caring for the arrangements.
