Velma Duensing

Velma Duensing, 91, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Rolling Prairie, surrounded by her family.

 

She was born July 11, 1929 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Chester Goble and Dolma (Jensen) Goble.

 

On January 31, 1948, in Columbus, IN Velma married Max Duensing, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Connie Dunning, a son Larry Duensing, brother’s Kenneth, Chester and Roger"Dean" and Donald Goble, sister’s Nancy Thompson, Betty Nordstrom, Mary Lou Mullins and Shirley Wilson, grandson, Chad Dunning and great-great-grandson Lincoln.

 

Velma is survived by her daughter, Alta Rae "Addie" (Gerry) Zuzock of Rolling Prairie, IN; son, Max Duensing,Jr. of LaPorte, IN; three sisters,  Judy Thompson of Hamlet, IN, Ruth Kroa of Knox, IN, Jane (Tony) Stanford of Hamlet, IN; three brothers, Gene (Joanne) Goble of Hamlet, IN, Dennis Goble of Hamlet, IN, Dale Goble of Knox, IN; 7 grandchildren, Leslie Duensing, Jimmy (Dee) Dunning, Shannon (Donna) Duensing, Gina Garcia, Amy (Floyd) Thomas, Jodie (Jerry) Novak, Ryan Duensing; 13 great-grandchildren, Andrew (Brittney), Lane, Dalton, Paz III, Isabella, Natalia, Dani, Zach, Lauren, Levi, Elliana, Jonah, Skyler, Elaine; 7 great great- grandchildren, Aiden, Liam, Silas, Mia, Ezekial, Nolan, Marshall, Lexi, Jeremiah, Nevaeh and a large extended family.

 

A lifelong resident of the area, Velma worked as a machine operator at both American Home Foods and Howmet for several years. She attended Faith Baptist Church in La Porte as well as the VFW in South Bend with her late husband. Velma loved to dance and you would often see her and Max kicking their heels up around town. Velma enjoyed fishing and learned to play the Banjo, which she shared with her musical family who she loved dearly.

 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, June 14 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  A celebration of her life will take place at 11:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Eddie Heavener, officiating.  Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery next to her husband, Max.
