John M. Hootman, 69, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at Franciscan Health Michigan City, with his family by his side.

 

John was born on January 14, 1952 in La Porte, IN, to Thomas and Ruth (Unger) Hootman.

 

On November 6, 1971, he married Rebecca Housley, who survives.  Also surviving are his daughter, Anndrea (Aaron) Kuhn of Batavia, IL; 2 grandchildren, Brayden and Hiley Kuhn; 2 brothers, Robert Hootman of La Porte and Steven (Suzanne) Hootman of Seattle, WA; 4 sisters, Mary Ann (Paul) Huber of La Porte, Martha Jones of New Carlisle, Sandra Garcia of La Porte, and Kelly (Michael) Brietzka of La Porte; stepmother, Sharon Hootman of La Porte;  as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers-in-law, Allen Jones, Robert Kain, and Hector Garcia.

 

John was a technical engineer for 42 years.  He enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and IU Basketball.  John was also a fan of NASCAR and muscle cars.

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
