David "Dave" Devon Lantz, 76, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Settlers Place in La Porte.
Dave was born in Michigan City, IN, on May 5, 1945 to the late Duane Devon and Josephine Emma (Schnick) Lantz.
Dave is survived by his children, Julie (Charles) Darwin, Joseph Lantz, and Jill Lantz, all of La Porte; 6 grandchildren, David (Sarah Ward) Darwin, Jana Meadows, Christopher (Julie Gust) Darwin, Jonathan Lantz, Gage Lantz, and Katelyn Lantz; 5 great-grandchildren, Brandon Meadows, Jasmine Meadows, Brianna Meadows, Alexander "Alex" Darwin, and Brooklyn Ward; siblings, Jackie (John) Steele, Janet (Bob) Schmidt, Donna (Lynn) Warner, Dennis (Leslie) Lantz, Jeff (Sue) Lantz, Doreen (Danny) Hammons, and Joyce (Robin) Schultz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Janet (Newkirk) Lantz; parents, Duane and Josephine Lantz; stepmother, Grace Lantz; sister, Deborah "Debbie" Deckard; and long-time best friend, John "Ripper" Supanik.
Dave proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was extremely active in the V.F.W., holding several posts including drill team member, color guard member, Post 1130 Commander, 3rd District Commander, and Indiana State Commander.
A La Porte High School graduate, Dave was a member of the swing choir and developed a most beautiful tenor voice. His family and friends will always recall him singing at weddings and in the Barber Shop Quartet, with some very special friends. Dave was always ready to hear or tell a good joke He was known to break into song to bring humor to any event. Dave's humor, mischief, love, and dedication will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
A time of visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will occur, at a later date, at Kingsbury Cemetery.
