Leona Marian Dittmer

Leona Marian Dittmer, 96, of La Porte, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 10, 2021.

 

Leona was born on June 6, 1924 in Michigan City, IN, to William and Ida (Raffel) Miller.

 

In 1941, she married Clarence William Dittmer, who preceded her in death.  Surviving Leona are her sister, Gladys Nelson of La Porte; daughter, Connie Jean (Martin) Barnes of La Porte; 3 grandchildren, Brenda Sue (Victor) Hull of La Porte, Kelly Lynn (Thomas) Owens of La Porte, and Jeffrey Scott (Theresa) Barnes of La Porte; 7 great-grandchildren, Lindsey (John Berry) Hull, Matthew Hull, Nickolas (Josie) Owens, Tyler Owens, Jordan (Christian) Porter, Megan Barnes, and Kyleigh Barnes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded by her parents, husband, 8 siblings, and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

As well as being a homemaker, for a short time during WWII, Leona worked for the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant making bullets for the war effort.  Leona enjoyed traveling with her husband in their camper, baking, bird watching, and fishing.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Ronald Brauer officiating.  Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. 

 

Due to the recent La Porte County Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask.

 

Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Ave., La Porte, IN 46350.
