Dr. Robert J. "Bob" McMonigal

Dr. Robert J. “Bob” McMonigal peacefully passed on into Heaven at his home in Port Charlotte, Florida on April 30, 2021.

 

Bob was born to Robert and Mary McMonigal on July 5, 1940, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He began his career in the U. S. Air Force and later retired after 30 years from NIPSCO as a civil engineer. After retiring, he continued his career in academia as a well-loved and passionate professor at Purdue University and Brown Mackie College. He was affectionately known as “Doc” by his students.

 

Bob was an avid Chicago sports fan and also enjoyed recreational softball, basketball and golf. When he wasn’t watching or participating in sports, he loved to play the bass guitar. He played on the worship team at Countryside Christian Church as well as in several bands. Bob loved the Lord and was a founding member of Countryside Christian Church in Michigan City, Indiana. He was known for always lending a helping hand to those in need. He was much loved by his family and always enjoyed spending time with them. Bob cherished all of his friends and students. Everyone was important to him.

 

Bob is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rhonda McMonigal; their seven children, Terri Ferro of Florida, David (Janet) McMonigal of Colorado, Kirsten (Peter) LaCava of California, Steven (Tamara) Bennett of Florida, Daniel (Nicole) Bennett of Indiana, Kevin (Jun) Bennett of Florida, and Mark McAlister of Michigan; 15 grandchildren, Emily, Anastasia, Jacob, Noah, Cora, Maximus, Juliun, Lexi, Ellie, Owen, Luke, Elijah, Oliver, Iris and Ondine; sister, Patty (David) Tackett of Kentucky, and his beloved cat, Blueberry. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Mary McMonigal, and his sister, Rosemary Leis.

 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Rick Jones officiating.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. (CST) until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. 

 

Due to the recent La Porte County Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask.
