Ronald L. Padgett

Ronald L. Padgett, 80, of La Porte, passed away January 14, 2021 at Northwest Health, La Porte. 

 

Ron was born April 17, 1940 to the late Gerald and Naomi (Matthews) Padgett.  On March 14, 1958, he married Judith Lloyd.  She preceded him in death, passing away March 4, 1998.  


Ron is survived by his daughter, Manon (John) Wilhelm and his sister, Carol Schell, both of La Porte.  Ron is also survived by his friend Jackie Orszulak.  He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Padgett in 1985 and his brother, Gary Padgett.


Ron was employed over 42 years with Whirlpool of La Porte. He also served from 1986 until the present on the Board of Directors at Grand Heritage (formerly Whirlpool) Credit Union and currently served as the President of the Board.  He was also on the Salem Cemetery Board of Directors for many years.


In his high school days, he pitched and played first base for Stillwell High. Ron graduated from Bethel College in South Bend with a Bachelor's degree in History. His love for sports continued throughout his life and Ron spent over 45 years officiating baseball, softball, adult leagues and basketball games throughout La Porte and the surrounding areas.


Ron was a quiet man with a tremendous sense of humor and his caring nature was reflected in his daily interactions with others.  His compassion for others led him to volunteer his time with the La Porte County New Day Foundation to transport patients undergoing chemotherapy for over 10 years.

 

Visitation will be from 10-12 noon with the funeral service at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.
