Helen M. Bennitt, 95, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. 

 

Helen was born September 13, 1925, in La Porte County, Indiana to the late Carl and Edith (DeWitt) Martensen.

 

On August 18, 1944 Helen married Harold Bennitt who preceded her in death on January 10, 2003.

Helen was a retired beautician. She owned and operated Helen Bennitt Beauty Salon. She was a member of the National Hairdressers & Cosmetologist Association, Rolling Prairie First United Methodist Church, and the Senior Bowling League at Casey’s Lanes.

 

Helen is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Harenza of La Porte, Indiana and Thelma J. (Martin) Eigenmann of St. Charles, Missouri; a son, Harold A. Bennitt, Jr. of Palm Bay, Florida; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Bennitt of Sebring, Florida; and a brother, Herbert Martensen of Conroe, Texas.

 

Helen was preceded in death by siblings, Lois Markley, Carl Martensen and Norman Martensen.

Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

 

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
