Roger Gene Jeffers, Jr.

Roger Gene Jeffers, Jr., age 59, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Franciscan Health in Michigan City.

  

Roger was born in La Porte, IN, on May 29, 1961 to Roger Gene and Delores (Rochon) Jeffers, Sr. 

 

On June 7, 1996 in Valparaiso, IN, he married Linda Wendt who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Amanda (Corey) Chavez of La Porte, Aaron (Krystal) Jeffers of Kouts, Joshua (Melissa) Jeffers of Valparaiso, and Dana (Derek) Surowiec of La Porte; 12 grandchildren, Alexander Mendoza, Natalie Williams, Cody, Gabriel and Cameron Chavez, Tyler and Hayden Rogers, Jocelyn Surowiec, Jayden Haynes, Karissa and Liberty Lauper, and Elizabeth Jeffers; 1 great-granddaughter, Lyric Mendoza; siblings, Diane (Don) Killingbeck, Gail Frain, Roxanne (Diemar) Knappe, and Clyde (Abigail) Newsome; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Miriam Wiles.

 

Roger loved woodworking with his wife and adored her with all that he had.  He was deeply dedicated to his family.  His family went to him for everything.    

 

He attended First Church of God.  Roger was mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything.  Many relied upon him to fix their broken items.  He loved food.  Roger's sense of humor was insurmountable.  He always had a joke such as handing out rocks at Halloween and leaving empty water bottles hidden everywhere.  Roger loved nature and the outdoors.  He spent time camping, fishing, hunting, and hanging out with friends.  Most of all, he loved to sit in the woods and talk to God.

Roger worked in maintenance at Westville Correctional Center for over 20 years. 

 

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at First Church of God with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 4 pm until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church.

 

Due to the recent Governor's Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is asked to follow the State guidelines concerning public gatherings.
