Robert Allen Kindig

Robert Allen Kindig, 89, of La Porte, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.

 

Robert was born on May 6, 1931 in La Porte, IN, to Emery and Alta (Arndt) Kindig.

 

On October 6, 1956 in La Porte, IN , he married Nancy Kessler who preceded him in death.  Surviving Robert are his children, Robert "Rup" Kindig of La Porte, Melodie (Tim) Robinson of La Porte, Christine Kindig-Ellis of Rockton, IN, and Karen (Dale) Wright of White Haven, FL; 11 grandchildren, Timmy, Cherokee, and Kelsee Robinson, Stephen and Westley Ellis, Courtney and Corey Oman, and Lexus, Porsche, Blazer, and Royce Wright; 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Trey Robinson; siblings, Juanita Curless of La Porte, Gerald Kindig of La Porte, and Cleo Bach of IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded by his parents; wife; and 8 siblings.

 

Robert proudly serviced in the U.S. Army, Active, from 1952-54, earning the Korean Service Ribbon with 2 bronze Campaign Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.  He was later transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves to complete his 8 years of service.

 

Robert was a carpenter, working in construction.  He enjoyed fishing in WI, bowling, gardening, and playing horse shoes.  A highlight for Robert was watching his granddaughters' softball games.

 

A Celebration of Life Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. 

 

Due to the recent Governor's Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six-feet.  Also, we are limited to 50 people in the building at any given time.  We kindly ask for your patience as we oversee these mandated guidelines.
