Jerome A. "Lefty" Jarka

Jerome A. "Lefty" Jarka, 94, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at 6:35 am in Rittenhouse Senior Living of Michigan City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, November 28, 2020 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 11:30 am, Saturday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

He was born October 22, 1926 in Michigan City, IN to the late Frank and Margaret (Novak) Jarka.

Surviving are three daughters, Charmian Kalk, Melony (Dean) Jarka, and Lori Mitchell; son, Kerry (Sandy) Jarka; step-daughter, Debbie (Mark) Debiak; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife Lorraine Kuskowski; his second wife, Merle Kutch; three step-daughter's, Diane Valdez, Linda Garner and Donna Ward; step-son, Steve Kutch; sister, Shirley Frankin; two brothers, Frank "Ed" Jarka and, Clement Jarka; and a granddaughter, Sunshine Taylor.

He retired as a machinist from Joy Mfg. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was lovingly called Lefty because he was left-handed and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who was overjoyed that he got to see them win the World Series. Go Cubs! Lefty was also proud of the fact that he was able to save the linoleum floor at St. Stanislaus Church where is it still shines today.
