John Anthony Matthews, 61, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at IU Health University Hospital, Indianapolis from complications of liver failure.

 

John was born on May 6, 1959, in Michigan City, IN, to William and Regina (Joyner) Matthews.

 

Surviving John are his siblings, Virginia Weaver, Joan (Michael) Day, Jane Cox, Larry (Patricia) Matthews, Deborah (Ronald) Salzer, Cynthia Propes and Geneva (Andrew) Fry; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cathy McManus; and brothers, Joe, George, Mike, Roy, and Zachary Matthews.

 

John was a proud Veteran of the U.S. National Guard.  He was a factory worker for many years at Subaru, Lafayette.  John was a gentle soul, who loved everybody.  He loved animals, especially his beloved dog, Lena.  Going to Cubs games and fishing were his favorite sports.  He was always doing something fun, attending concerts, baseball games, family gatherings and camping.  John is remembered with many happy memories.

 

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN.  Full Military Honors will take place.

 

A time of visitation will be held from 1-3 PM Saturday prior to the service.
